Serving as much more than a business initiative, CSG’s Women’s Initiative (WIN) aims to provide women attorneys with opportunities for personal development, as well as rewarding relationships both within the firm and externally – equipping them with the resources needed to succeed in their careers, their communities and their lives.

As a result of the firm’s efforts to date, today 32% of CSG’s partners are women, well above the national average for law firms nationwide (which is 22.7% according to the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession’s publication – A Current Glance at Women in the Law, April 2019). In addition, more than one-third of the firm’s practice groups are led by women.

WIN has several goals: (1) to enhance career development; (2) to provide an environment that nurtures new business contacts and outlets; (3) to promote professional development through mentoring and educational programs; (4) to connect with, and support, the region’s women business leaders.

Supporting and Mentoring Women

As part of a woman attorney’s onboarding at CSG, she is assigned a mentor from the Women’s Initiative. This mentor connects the new attorney with others at the firm in order to help foster and build her internal network. Through regular educational and social events, the firm’s women attorneys are provided with a variety of opportunities to learn from each other and engage in ways that will help to develop their careers. Educational programs in support of this critical initiative have ranged from training on networking and business development skills to substantive legal topics.

Building Connections

Through WIN, many of the firm’s women attorneys have been provided with the opportunity to speak, write and be involved in leading business and legal organizations. By providing substantive programming to outside organizations, women attorneys are able to hone their presentation skills and build their contact networks – both important factors to future success.

As a result, our women attorneys are nationally sought after thought leaders in their respective fields of practice, frequently collaborating with outside organizations to provide valuable content to their membership. For example, the firm is actively involved with the Association of Corporate Counsel of New Jersey, assisting in providing content and programming to the group’s women through educational and social events.

Many of the firm’s women attorneys have also helped lead and build organizations supporting women in the law and in key industries. One of the firm’s women members founded and chairs the Women’s White Collar Defense Association’s (WWCDA) New Jersey Chapter. In this role, she works closely with the leaders of other chapters globally to build the association and promote the business and professional interests of women attorneys who represent corporations, other organizations and individuals facing government enforcement actions, internal investigations, compliance and ethics matters. The Chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee was also invited to serve as the Co-Head of the inaugural Diversity & Inclusion Sub-Committee of the WWCDA nationally.

Another woman attorney serves as an Executive Committee Member of Women in Surety, an organization focused on increasing diversity and expanding opportunities for women in this industry.

The firm’s women attorneys have also taken on active leadership roles within the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association. Among our powerhouse roster, one attorney previously served as the organization’s President and another currently serves on its Board of Directors.

Through these types of organizations, CSG’s women build strong connections to other professionals and provide valuable insight into the development of women attorneys at various stages of their careers.

Community Outreach

CSG’s Women’s Initiative is also heavily involved in community outreach and sponsorship. CSG has taken a leading role in supporting fundraisers for numerous organizations promoting women’s personal and economic development – including Dress for Success Northern New Jersey, Girls on the Run of New Jersey East, Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey, Go Red for Women, and more.
