Intellectual Property and Trade Secret Litigator, Wendy Stein, Joins CSG's New York City Office

Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC is pleased to announce that Wendy R. Stein, an intellectual property litigator and strategist with nearly 20 years of experience litigating claims of IP infringement and trade secret misappropriation on both the plaintiff and defense side, has joined the firm as a Member in its New York City office.

“Over the course of her career, Wendy has developed an exemplary reputation as a tenacious advocate and gifted legal professional when pursuing client interests, precisely the qualities we seek as we continue to enhance our regional presence,” noted Jeffrey S. Chiesa, CSG Executive Committee member. “Paired with her first-class track record litigating in the Southern District of New York and her dynamic client roster, these characteristics placed Wendy squarely on our radar as a key asset for our growing New York City office. We are thrilled to officially welcome her to the CSG family.”

Practicing in the patent, trade secret and trademark areas, Stein has litigated a broad array of matters in the technology, pharmaceutical and life science sectors. She is regularly engaged by trade secret owners to secure emergent relief to protect their rights under the Defend Trade Secrets Act and other state laws. She also maintains an active defense practice representing individual and corporate defendants accused of misappropriating alleged trade secrets under the DTSA and other state laws.

In her trademark practice, Stein represents trademark owners in infringement cases and has also represented individuals and corporate entities facing claims of trademark infringement. She has appeared before federal and state courts throughout the United States, including New York, New Jersey, Delaware, California, Massachusetts, Florida, Texas, Arizona, the District of Columbia, Illinois, and Nebraska, and before the Court of Appeals for the D.C. and Federal Circuits.

“Bringing her extraordinary business, intellectual property and courtroom experience, Wendy’s arrival is a significant boon to our IP and federal litigation capabilities. We take pride in providing clients with forward-looking, innovative solutions and representation in their highest-stakes matters – and the addition of Wendy to our renowned roster of litigators ensures that we stay well ahead of this critical strategic imperative,” said Adam K. Derman, Co-Chair of CSG’s Litigation Group and Executive Committee member.

“As the business community gets back to more fulsome, proactive operations, I foresee a meaningful uptick in IP claims on the horizon, particularly in the trade secret space, alongside a flurry of back-to-business challenges and concerns,” noted Stein. “As we navigate the new normal, joining the CSG team will ensure not only unparalleled client service but also tremendous value resulting from close collaboration among lawyers practicing at the frontline of legal developments.”

Stein is an active member of the bar of the Southern District of New York. She is currently President-Elect of the Federal Bar Association’s Southern District of New York Chapter and previously served as Editor of its publication, The New York Minutes, from 2015-2019. She also served as Editor of the FBA IP Law Section’s publication, The IP Legal Browser. Notably, Stein is also a member of the Sedona Conference’s Working Group on Trade Secrets. She earned her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and holds a B.A. and M.P.H. from Brandeis University and Yale School of Public Health, respectively.

Stein’s arrival is the latest in a string of notable partner-level talent CSG has attracted over the first half of 2021. The firm most recently welcomed Sam Della Fera, Jr. and Thomas M. Walsh to its Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights Group in May following the March 2021 arrivals of the Honorable Joseph A. Dickson, former Federal Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and transactional commercial real estate veteran, Philip A. Markowitz.

Since originally opening its doors in 2016, CSG’s New York City office – conveniently situated at Eleven Times Square – has experienced consistent growth and nearly doubled its footprint in 2020 to occupy more than 8,000-square-feet within the Class A commercial tower. Today, 16 professionals, including ten attorneys, are resident in the space with additional CSG lawyers utilizing the full-service hub to serve clients’ increasingly sophisticated needs.
